Ramai yang mengatakan bahawa asal usul nama Kem Wardieburn terdiri daripada tiga perkataan bahasa Inggeris iaitu war (perang), die (mati) dan burn (bakar). Namun hakikatnya itu adalah mitos semata-mata.
Rentetan sejarah Kem Wardieburn bermula dengan pengambilan nama 'wardieburn' yang diambil daripada Wardieburn Estate yang dibuka pada tahun 1888 oleh Robert Meikle dan Christopher Miekle. Mereka menamakan ladang mereka sebagai Wardieburn Estate bersempena dengan nama tempat tinggal bapa mereka di Wardieburn, Edinburgh, Scotland. Ladang ini telah dimulakan dengan penanaman pokok kopi yang mendapat tempat dalam pasaran ketika itu diikuti dengan penanaman pokok getah pada tahun 1899 dan 1900.
Miekle bersaudara bukanlah nama asing kepada Malaya ketika itu. Nama mereka ada tercatat dalam sejarah perladangan dan pengurusan di Malaya. Mereka antara individu yang bertanggungjawab dalam menubuhkan kelab golf yang antara tertua di Asia iaitu Kelab Golf Diraja Selangor di Kuala Lumpur pada tahun 1893. Robert Miekle kemudiannya meninggalkan Malaya untuk menjadi appointed Govenor di British East Africa.
